Alleged Certificate Forgery: Court Hears Suit Against Gov. Matawalle Tomorrow

A Federal High Court in Zamfara has fixed tomorrow October 3rd to hear a suit seeking the disqualification of Zamfara State Governor, Bello Mohammed Matawalle from contesting in the 2023 elections.

The Northern Youth Assembly in a press release signed by its assistant national publicity secretary, Mohammed Hussaini Bauchi, and made available to journalists in Abuja stated that the suit is against Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle of Zamfara State over his eligibility or otherwise to contest for elections come 2023.

The plaintiffs, Northern Youth Assembly (Majalisar Matasan Arewa) are asking the court to rule that Governor Matawalle is ineligible to run for Governor in the 2023 gubernatorial election as the Zamfara APC candidate because he allegedly submitted false information to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)

Hussaini Bauchi explained that the Northern Youth Assembly is one of the leading Youth platforms in Nigeria, with representations across the 19 Northern states and Abuja, and functional administrative structures.

He further stressed that “It could be recalled that, in our quest for social justice, accountability and transparency in the conduct of democratic governance, Zamfara State Chapter of the Assembly, had filed a suit against Governor Bello Mohammed of Zamfara State, challenging his eligibility to contest for elections come 2023.

“The issues of concern among other things include: the alleged contradicting school certificates and others. Another plaintiff in the case is Comrade Munnir Mu’azu Haidara, while other defendants also include: All Progressive Congress Party, Chairman, All Progressive Congress, Zamfara State Chapter and Independent Electoral Commission. The case was initially filed at the Federal High Court Abuja, but was later assigned to the Federal High Court, Gusau Judicial Division.

“The legal team for the Assembly, shall be led by K. M. Nura Esq, who shall be assisted by other Lawyers. The case is officially slated for mention tomorrow, 4th October 2022, at Federal High Court, Gusau, Zamfara State.” He said.
