The Alternative Dispute Resolution Society, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ADR Society, ABU Zaria) has won the maiden national mediation competition. The competition organized by the National ADR Society in honour of Amb. Segun Ogunyannwo— the President of Mediation Training Institute (MTI-Nigeria) featured the participation of about 10 top teams from universities across the country.

The national competition which was held between 4th—9th December 2023, was the first of its kind organized by the National ADR Society as part of the highlights of its Inaugural National ADR Conference holding in Abuja. The competition was aimed at engaging students based on a mediation session arrangement in order to test their skills at the mediation table.

Worthy of note, Team ADR Society, ABU Zaria went from the preliminary round up to the finals where it contested against ADR Society, Rivers State University (RSU) to emerge winners of the competition with an aggregate score of 85.7 points as against RSU’s 81.7 points.

The Pioneer Chairperson of the ADR Society, ABU Zaria, Joseph Omoha, remarked that the victory is a huge one for the society, coming less than a year after its establishment. He also went further to appreciate the National ADR Society for putting up such an engaging competition which provided participants with an exhilarating and educative experience.

Additionally, he reiterated the commitment of the leadership of the society to abide by the core tenets and values upon which the society was established, and to provide members with the platform to build and grow their career in Alternative Dispute Resolution.

Recall that the ADR Society, ABU Zaria had, sometime in August this year, emerged First Runner-up in another national inter-university ADR competition organized by Stren & Blan Partners— a full-service commercial Law Firm that provides legal services to diverse local and multinational corporations.
