The Commanding Officer, 1 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Gusau, Brig.-Gen. Musliu Bello, has assured journalists in Zamfara of the brigade’s readiness to always engage the media in information dissemination.
He said the soldiers operating in the state were working tirelessly and professionally to ensure the sustenance of the peace that had so far been achieved after different forms of engagements with bandits, some of whom, had either repented, left the state or been neutralised.
“As soldiers, we came from different parts of the country; some of us don’t even speak Hausa or Fulfulde, but we are working in line of our duty to maintain peace; sometimes we even pay the supreme price in the defence of our nation.
“We are happy, therefore, that the union has approached us to partner with it for the peaceful coexistence of our people and we want to assure you that this is a good initiative and we are ready to partner with you,” he said.
Earlier, the Chairman of the council, Malam Abdulrazak Bello, told the commander that the Exco members were at the brigade to pay courtesy visit and seek for understanding of the soldiers for good information flow.
The chairman said that the journalists needed to always get information from credible sources for dissemination to the public, and that security issues highly depended on such in view of their sensitive nature.
