Zamfara Trains 100 Women In Computer Literacy

The Zamfara State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has trained 100 Women in computer literacy, food nutrition and other skills, to empower them to be self reliant.

The State Commissioner in the ministry, Hajiya Zainab Lawal disclosed this in Gusau on Wednesday at a lecture on “Generation Equality and Realising Women’s Rights.”

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the lecture was organised by the ministry as part of activities to mark the 2020 International Women Day.

The commissioner said the beneficiaries were drawn from the 14 local government areas of the state.

“After the training, we supported 50 percent of the beneficiaries with empowerment tools with aim of supporting them to be self reliant in future.

“The remaining 50 per cent of the beneficiaries, we gave each N5,000 to support them to improve their empowerment skills,” the commissioner said.

Lawal appealed to the beneficiaries to utilise the knowledge learnt for their future development.

The Head of Biological Sciences Department, Federal University, Gusau, Prof. Sa’adatu Shinkafi in her presentation on  the “Role of Women in the Society”,  said women had  been left behind in various sectors of development.

Shinkafi said that women had greater role to play in the modern world and called on stakeholders to improve the capabilities of women to enable them contribute more to societal development.

She said “even in the Islamic religion women are recognised and encouraged to be educated and empowered.”

Hajiya Sa’adatu Abdu-Gusau who also presented a paper on women equality and rights, commended the state government under the leadership of Gov. Bello Matawalle for initiating various programmes to empower women.

Abdu-Gusau urged government at all levels to continue to implement policies for women development and for women to wake up and seek both Western and Islamic knowledge.
