NYSC Corp Members Commit To Keeping Lagos Clean — Cordinator

Mr Eddy Megwa, the Lagos State Coordinator of National Youth Service Corpse (NYSC), has reiterated Corps members commitment to the growth and cleanliness of the ‘ City of Excellence ‘.

Megwa made the assertion at an NYSC nationwide programme tagged: “Observance of NYSC National Environmental Sanitation Day” on Saturday at Orile, Obada Market, Ikeja.

He said that the NYSC, through the programme, is out to make and fulfill a national statement, being part of the scheme’s commitment to the development of Nigeria.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the programme, which was championed by Corps members in Lagos, was to sensitise communities on the importance of keeping and achieving a clean and healthy environment.

 

” NYSC is on ground and we are using this opportunity to contribute our quota towards achieving healthy environment by supporting the state government and making sure that this great city of excellence is made clean.

” Ordinarily, this programme would have held last week Saturday simultaneously with other states, but we had to reschedule for today due to the just concluded local government election in Lagos State.

” So, both Corp members and Staff of NYSC Lagos are here to make a green statement that Lagos must be kept clean with our tools to clear the drainage and sensitise traders to follow suit,” he said.

The Coordinator disclosed that the NYSC environmental sanitation exercise would be observed once every month across the state by Corp members in various local government areas of Lagos .

According to him, the NYSC believes in the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Corp members mobilised to serve their fatherland in different parts of the country and they are out to give in their best.

“ The environmental sanitation is going to be a continuous exercise because we want our impact felt significantly; so, we are soliciting for Lagosians to join us NYSC to keep the beautiful city of Lagos clean.” Megwa added.

 

Also, in his remarks, Mr Tayo Bamgbose-Martins, the Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Lagos State, represented by Mr Idowu Saheed, said the ministry was glad to partner with the NYSC and it’s activities in the state.

” I am here in capacity of the honourable commissioner, It’s our pleasure to identify with the NYSC, which has been our baby in all ramifications and we will support and keep supporting the NYSC,” he said.

Meanwhile, Awulate Adeolu, the Iya Oloja of Obada Market, who was represented by Mrs Titilayo Folorunso, said she was glad with the visit and purpose of NYSC Corp members and Staff in the market.

Folorunso, daughter of the Iya Oloja who spoke in Yoruba language, described environmental sanitation by the NYSC, Lagos serving Corp members as a laudable and inspiring to the market men and women on keeping to cleanliness.

” I am representing my mother, the Iya Oloja of this Orile Obada market, and I welcome you all and happy with your mission here today to help us clean the gutters.

” We are very grateful and I pray that God will bless everyone of you, be with you all, reward your efforts and your parents will never cry over you in this your service year in Jesus name.” She expressed.

She appealed to the Corps members to endeavour to make the exercise a monthly affair as it will go a long way to sustain the initiative.

NAN reports that amongst officials of the NYSC and members of the programme Committee included Mr Dotun Fashina, Victoria Akowoleyin and Mrs Joyce Madaki wh is the Assistant Director, Press and Public Relations. (NAN)
