Nasarawa To Secure Schools From Attacks

Nasarawa State government said it is taking drastic steps to secure education institutions in the state following the rising spate of attacks and kidnapping by gunmen in recent times.

Governor Abdullahi Sule who made the promise said the state government is already in talks with heads of security agencies in the state in that direction.

It could be recalls that both the state-owned university in Keffi and the Federal University in Lafia, have come under attacks by gunmen within the last two months.

The state-owned Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic in Lafia was also not left out of the menace.

Last Monday, gunmen shot a 300-level student of the Federal University even as they kidnapped a notable businessman.

Also, within the month, a female lecturer with the State University, Dr Comfort Adokwe was kidnapped when gunmen attacked her residence located in Angwan Jabba in Keffi town.

Adokwe, a lecturer at the Faculty of Administration and deputy director of Gender Studies, was released by her abductors days later after an undisclosed amount was paid as ransom.

Similarly, four students of the institution were abducted from their off-campus residence in Angwan Kare area of Keffi town.

Governor Sule said the state government has a responsibility to secure the institutions and their inhabitants.
