Jigawa Government says it has promoted 1,433 middle and senior cadre personnel in 27 local government areas of the state in 2021.

Alhaji Uba Ringim, Chairman, Jigawa Local Government Service Commission (JLGSC), told newsmen on Tuesday in Dutse that the Commission also expended over N218 million on staff development programmes in the past one year.

Ringim, a retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), said that N59 million was spent in sponsoring 634 staff for in-service training programmes in various institutions of higher learning within and outside the state.

He said that 194 workers comprising sanitary overseers, forest guards and assistant works superintendents were also sponsored for special training programme to build their capacities.

“The training become necessary because employees are strategic managers in their respective LGAs, so they need to be equipped with the needed skills to enable them to discharge their duties effectively,” he said.

The gesture, he said, is to enable the workers to obtain additional qualifications for better performances.

Ringim said the Commission also approved payment of retirement benefits to 308 staff and death benefits of 193 others as well as payment of retirement benefits of Local Government Education Authority (LEAs) staff.

He said the Commission had approved the posting of 54 Directors of General Services, Planning, Research and Statistics.

“The Commission also embarks on unscheduled working tour to the 27 LGAs to check truancy, promote good work ethics and productivity among staff.

“We also provided 200 attendance registers to the 27 LGAs to ensure that staff come to work regularly,” he said.
