Gombe Police Command Parade 17 Suspects Arrested For Various Offenses

The Gombe state Police command has paraded 17 suspects for allegedly committing various crimes, State Commissioner of Police, Mr Ishola Babaita said on Monday.

Babaita told a press briefing in Gombe that 14 of the suspects were arrested on May 22, with locally fabricated weapons, including inciting public disturbance after being sighted at the Government Day Secondary School Kagarawal in Gombe attacking innocent people.

The commissioner said investigations revealed that the suspects had clashed at a Sallah party organised by their friends in Deba town of Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area of the state, after which they went on an attacking spree on unsuspecting passers by.

He said ten persons were injured during the attacks while carrying out their lawful businesses and were currently receiving treatment.

Babaita disclosed that three fabricated metal rods, four machetes and one dagger were recovered from the attackers.

He said two suspects from Tunfure and Chechenya quarters were also arrested on May 16, in connection with criminal conspiracy, house breaking and thefts of one LG plasma TV one HP laptop, two GSM handsets and a piece of curtain used in wrapping the items recovered from them.

Also, another suspect was arrested on May 23, in possession of false fabricated master key and investigation revealed that the suspect went to Bajoga town in Funakaye LGA and stole a red-coloured Bajaj motorcycle  with registration number No ABC 444 VR.

Babaita said that all the suspects have confessed to their crimes and would soon be charged to court for prosecution.

The commissioner restated the determination of the command to ensure that residents of the state lived in a secure environment and in peace, to carry out their legitimate businesses.

Babaita, however, appealed to residents to continue to remain vigilant, and promptly report any attempts to disrupt the peace of the state, to the police.((NAN)
