Kaduna State Government on Tuesday donated N2 million to the Nigerian Legion to support veterans and depedents of the Nigerian fallen heroes.
Gov. Nasiru El-Rufai, who announced the donation at the launch of the emblem, said the event signified the beginning of 2020 Arm Forces Remembrance Day.
The governor, who was represented at the event by Mr Samuel Aruwan, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, urged residents of the state to support the veterans and families of the fallen heroes.
He appealed to all military formations and the public to continue to support legionnaires and ensure redeem all pledges made to them.
El-Rufai said the men and women in uniform had consistently risen to the occasion in making sacrifices, where some paid the supreme price for unity and peace of the country.
The Governor appealed to Nigerians to consider and support the serving men and women with sense of honor and salute their courage and sacrifices.
He appreciated the support of the people of the state to the state government in the effort to ensure sustainable of peace.
Earlier, Kaduna State Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, John Tabat appealed for support to the legion to enable them to contribute their quarter to state development and the nation at large.
Tabat noted that the Armed Forces Remembrance Day was a unique occasion for the government and the people to remember the plight of the living and the death.
He said the event was meant to provide more support to reduce the suffering of the living legend and pray for those who lost their lives in the course of ensuring the nation’s peace and unity.
The chairman appreciated Kaduna state government for its continuous support, especially for the provision of office accommodation and other forms of support to the legionnaires.
He, however, appealed to the government to provide the legionnaires with a permanent farm land for a sustainable means of livelihood.
Tabat urged the government to establish a core commission under Nigeria legion Kaduna to enhance the security situation in the state.
