Library is one of the most important facilities for teaching, learning and research at all levels of education from primary, secondary and tertiary institutions.
In the good olden days or what is now called analog days, the use of library is inescapable and inevitable if you want to come up with qualitative work that can be presented everywhere because it all depends on how vast you read. To be a companion of the library increases one’s knowledge as a result of coming across new ideas on daily basis that will shape your world view.
The development and advancement of information and communication technology came with new innovations that makes teaching, learning and research very easy because of the availability of e-materials (internet) that provides access to textbooks, journals and other materials needed for the development of education.
Despite the advancement of information and communication technology, up to now it could not dispensed with the importance of library in our modern days education system.
However, in order to meetup with the dynamic of modern day educational system, libraries were designed to take care of the conventional sections of hard copy materials and e-library sections (automation). The integration of e-library is to make learning much more easier whereby each section of the library complement and reinforce each other.
As a result of the importance of libraries in educational system generally, government built public libraries in order to make teaching, learning and research easier by both teachers, students and researchers easier. Sometimes concerned individuals or groups donates books, journals, computers and other facilities that will make them fully functional to attract library users from far and near places.
Daura public library is one of the public libraries that enjoys public supports. In this regard, the contribution of late Alhaji Abdullahi Akko paved way for the building by donating his piece of land which makes it possible to have the present building of Daura Public Library.
Recently someone that have special interest and love for educational development rehabilitated the said library and supplied latest books, e-library and standby generator to provides conducive atmosphere for research.
When I heard about the new arrivals of books and other facilities, I was overwhelmed with joy that I can now have access to research materials whenever I am at home. I have no doubt in my mind the official commissioning of this modern library will be a welcome development and relief to our teaming students from far and near places to make good use of it for their researches.
To our greatest shocks and surprise to fixed a date for handing-over ceremony between the donor and the state government representatives is becoming difficult or impossible to fix. If care is not taken the efforts and resources puts in this library will be a waste.
I am humbly appealing to all the stakeholders involved to come-up with a date for official handing and taking over ceremony for facilities and stocks provided by the donor. The delays are gradually becoming unbearable for the potential beneficiaries of this library and concerned people of Daura.
