Covid-19: Ogun Assembly Suspends Public Hearing

The Ogun House of Assembly, on Thursday, suspended public hearing on tradition rulers installations and burial rites bill due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Mr Olakunle Oluomo, announced the suspension of the public hearing on the bill during plenary in Abeokuta.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that that the hearing on the bill had hitherto been scheduled for next week.
Oluomo (APC-Ifo I) said that the state government had, on Wednesday in a statement, banned high density gatherings of more than 50 persons.
He also ordered the restriction of visitors into the assembly complex within the next 30 days, saying that all meetings already scheduled had been cancelled with immediate effect.
“Anybody invited to the House will have to take necessary precautionary measures; it is applicable to all the lawmakers and staffers of the assembly. We should also stop handshaking one another, for now,” he said.
Oluomo also appealed to health workers in local government areas across the state to sensitise and educate the people on the dangers and prevention of the virus.
He called on the state government to continue to intensify efforts on enlightenment campaign, saying that organisations, professional bodies and market leaders should also put in place measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
Also during plenary, the Ogun State Fiscal Responsibility Law, 2019, the Ogun State Public Procurement Law, 2019, People with Disability Law of Ogun State, 2020 and Ogun State Health Insurance Scheme Amendment Law, 2020, all scaled first reading.
