No fewer than 50 vulnerable households benefited from the food items distributed by Ikra Foundation, Bauchi State to cushion the effects of the COVID-19 lockdown in some communities on Wednesday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the group, otherwise called Women and Youths Development (IFWYD), is a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) that distributed rice, beans and groundnuts among others in Bauchi.

The founder of the NGO, Hajiya Amina Garuba, said the items were to complement the palliatives being distributed  by government and other philanthropists during this lockdown.

“The activity was aimed at cushioning the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown on indigent families, widows and communities as well as creating awareness for *vulnerable families and communities.

“The relief package was targeted at indigent families, widows and aged women as well as households with little or income. These beneficiaries are selected by the community heads,” she said.

Mrs Hajara Mohammed, who received the items on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the NGO for the gesture.

She said that the gesture would bring succour to beneficiaries, especially during this lockdown and the Ramadan period.
