Court Remands 2 Men For Allegedly Stealing N95,000 In Enugu

An Enugu South Magistrates’ Court on Friday remanded one Timothy Ikechukwu and Kenechi Samuel for alleged burglary and stealing of N95,000 belonging to one Israel Agbo.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs C.O Ejeagbasi, ordered that the defendants be remanded in Enugu Correctional Service and their file be transmitted to the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice.

She added that the defendants had the right to apply for their bail and granted them bail in the sum of N20, 000 each with surety in like sum and who must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

The defendants were arraigned on three-count charge bothering on conspiracy, burglary and stealing.

When the charges were read, they pleaded guilty to all the charge.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Rosemary Ojobo told the court that the defendants had on Jan. 14, 2022, at about 11:30 p.m. at Iyiama Layout, Awknanaw in Enugu South Local Government Area conspired among themselves and broke into complainant’s room with intent to steal.

She said the defendants stole  N95, 000 belonging to the complainant, adding that the offence contravened section 495 section (A) the Criminal Code,  Revised Laws of Enugu  State, 2004.

Ejeagbasi, however, adjourned the matter till Feb. 2 for hearing.
