Coronavirus: Local Government Embark On Grassroots Sensitization In Zaria

The National Orientation Agency (NOA), on Thursday, carried out sensitization on preventive measures against COVID-19 in Zaria Local Government area of Kaduna state.

Aminu-Alhassan Sa’id, NOA Officer in charge of Zaria Local Government, said sensitization remains the best strategy in preventing the diseases.

He added that the agency in collaboration with the local council, would also carry out an orientation on the need to patronize made in Nigeria products and protection of public facilities against vandalism.

He said the agency brought experts who discussed on effective hand washing as one of the key strategies for the prevention of the disease.

Sa’id said participants were drawn from formal and informal sectors with a view to ensure that the message gets down to the grassroots.

Chairman, Zaria Local Government, Engr. Aliyu Ibrahim, had earlier urged the participants to follow the guidelines on measures to guard against Coronavirus, in order to remain safe and healthy.

In his remarks, Malam Buhari Junaid, Water Health and Sanitation officer, Zaria local government, urged the participants to observe effective hand washing with soap and running water to avert the disease.

He advocated for the use of hand sanitizer; and urged the public to avoid contact with anybody showing symptoms of the disease.

The chairman, represented by his Principal Private Secretary, Malam Ibrahim Zakariyau, said it was mandatory for the people to protect public facilities in their communities.

He noted that what gave birth to the bad attitude of vandalism of public facilities was a failure of governance, especially when the facilities provided were not what the people needed.

He added that his administration always engaged communities before undertaking any projects, so that the people would own and protect the projects

The chairman said that government and the private sector had  been engaging youths and women on different skills for Nigerians to imbibe high level of patronage for the local products.
