The national president of the Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Alhaji Musa Mohammed Maitakobi has condemned the publication of some newspapers quoting chairman of NURTW Lagos chapter Alhaji Akin sanya (MC-Oluomo) alleging that members of RTEAN at Obalende in Lagos has attacked NURTW members as false statement.
Alhaji Mohammed described the statement as lies conceited with the intention to bury the atrocities meted against our members which resulted to the injuries of seven persons plus the destruction of six vehicles.
He said, “On Monday 2nd Feb, 2021, NURTW members storms 2 garages under our operations and took over the premises and started pushing our members, 2 days later RTEAN members re-take their 2 motor parks and continue with their businesses,
“Then onthe Feb 11th 2021, NURTW come in large numbers with stones, sticks and cutlasses and attacked our members.
“No right thinking person would believe or said that we that have only two motor parks out twenty attacked NURTW that operates in 19 motor parks. We are peace loving citizens even our Motto is Maturity, we don’t take law into hands under any circumstances.”
According to him, in 20 Local Government area of Lagos State RTEAN operates only in 6 local Government while NURTW operates in the remaining sixteen local government and even among the 6 Local Governments that we operates NURTW has also has motor parks in it.
When we heard rumors that NURTW were planning to drive us out of our 2 motor Parks in Obalende we reported the matters to Area commander Area A Lion Building and both parties were invited and at the end NURTW were warned to desist from any plan to take over the 2 RTEAN parks at Obalende. The matter was reported to KAMSALEM House and FCID Headquarters Annex at Alagbon Close.
“RTEAN has cordial relationship with Lagos State Government,Security Agencies and Ministry of Transport which is the regulator of our noble Association.
“We appealed to Authority concern to investigate this matter and do justice to the victims who sustained injuries during the attacks and compensate the the vehicle that were destroyed. We urge all members to remain calm abide and they should not to take law into their hands,” he added.
