African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kano State has disapproved of the recent allocation of funds by the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) for Local Government Chairmen and Councilors.

In a statement signed by Comrade Aliyu Hydar, the Media Secretary to the former Kano State Governorship candidate, Malam Ibrahim Khalil, the ADC has threatened to take legal action if the decision is not reversed.

The decision followed a meeting held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, by the 44 Local Government ADC Chairmen in the state.

According to the Publicity Secretary of Tarauni Local Government ADC, the meeting concluded that the allocation is “null and void” as it contradicts President Bola Tinubu’s mission of granting full autonomy to local governments. The allocation also allegedly undermines a ruling by the Supreme Court on the matter.

Comrade Hydar stated, “We urge other parties in Kano to contest with confidence. The millions of Naira allocated by KANSIEC contradict the very essence of local government autonomy and go against the Supreme Court’s ruling. We are prepared to take legal action against this political sabotage if the decision is not reversed.”
