Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has donated the sum of N100 million to assist the victims of the devastating flood that ravaged Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The donation was announced on Sunday in Maiduguri by the former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election while extending his deepest sympathies to the Borno state Governor, Prof Babagana Zulum and those affected by the flood disaster.

Atiku said”, This generous gesture is a testament to my unwavering dedication to humanitarian efforts. The Maiduguri flood, which has displaced an estimated 500,000 individuals and wrought widespread destruction, represents an acute humanitarian emergency.

In addition to his donation, the Waziri Adamawa also called upon his network of friends and associates to contribute further to the relief efforts.

This gesture mirrors my previous humanitarian initiatives, notably during the COVID-19 pandemic, when I mobilised support from my circle to address urgent needs,” Atiku said.

Upon his arrival at Maiduguri airport, Atiku, accompanied by family and close associates, was received by Senator representing Borno North Mohammed Munguno, and Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan (SAN) representing Borno Central.

His visit continued with a courtesy call to Governor Zulum at the Government House, where the donation to the flood relief fund was announced.

Governor Zulum expressed gratitude for Atiku’s compassionate visit, acknowledging, “ That the people of Borno deeply appreciate this show of solidarity.”

A statement by the Media Adviser to the former Vice President, Mr Paul Ibe, said, “Atiku Abubakar’s generous support not only highlights his deep humanitarian commitment, but also serves as a powerful beacon of hope and solidarity during these trying times.”
