Man In Court For Giving False Information to Police

A trader , Surajo Yekin,  who allegedly gave false information to the police on Friday appeared in a Magistrates’ Court in Minna.

The police charged Yekin with four counts of defamation of character, giving false information to mislead a public servant, making atmosphere noxious to health and inciting disturbance.

The Police Prosecutor, Cpl . Emmanuel Ogiri, told the court that the complainant, Yusuf Mohammed, who works at the General Hospital, Suleja, reported the matter to the police on Oct. 23.

Ogiri alleged that the defendant accused his wife of “stealing” his son’s corpse from a private hospital to the General Hospital, Suleja.

He said that the defendant also told the police that his wife mutilated his son’s corpse.

“The police investigated the allegations and ordered that an autopsy be done on the corpse.

”The autopsy report revealed that the accused made false allegations,” he said.

He alleged that after the results of the autopsy was revealed to the defendant, he abandoned his son’s corpse in the hospital ambulance.

He alleged that the defendant incited the public against the management of the hospital over the issue.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 140, 192, 392 and 114 of the Penal Code Law.

When the charge was read to him, he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor thereafter prayed the court for adjournment as investigation into the matter was still ongoing.

In his ruling, Magistrate Paul Adama, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N1million with one surety in like sum who must be a civil servant not below grade level 14.

Adama adjourned the case until Jan. 20, 2020 for further mention.
