The Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mr Ahmad Abdurrahman, says he will from 2020 hold officers responsible for corrupt tendencies of personnel within their various jurisdictions.
Abdurrahman gave the warning during his interface with Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and other heads of various departments in the command in Enugu on Tuesday.
He said that officers would be henceforth vicariously punished over exhibition of corrupt tendencies and other misconducts of personnel working in their jurisdictions.
”Henceforth any officer in whose domain extortion is recorded will be vicariously punished alongside with his personnel.
“We can effectively police our areas without causing pains to road users through extortions.
“On that note, I am directing the X-squad and monitoring units as well as provost units of the command to rise up to the occasion of checkmating this ugly trend,’’ he said.
The commissioner warned that no person caught by the monitoring and enforcement teams would be spared.
“I urge officers and men to remain professional and to continue to police with human face,’’ he said.
