Signatures are been collected in preparation for possible recall of the Senator for Zamfara North Sahabi Alh Ya’u.
This according to the press statement issued to newsmen in Gusau and signed by one Bello Muhammad Shinkafi and counter signed by Abubakar Sani Zurmi the move was initiated as part of strategy for check and balance as it relates to lawmakers elected by the people,
He said the move to recall Sen. Sahabi Ya’u was an initiation design to demonstrate the dissatisfaction of the people of the Senatorial District about Sahabi’s poor performance at the 10th National Assembly.
The Zamfara North Senatorial Constituency comprises Kaura Namoda, Birnin Magaji, Zurmi and Shinkafi local governments.
“Unlike before when he used to do some little effort to present the serious concerns of his people the Senator is now sleeping on the floor with nothing to show about the concern of the people of Zamfara North been discuss on the floor of the Senate” the content of the statement captured.
“By June 2024 the 10th National Assembly will be clicking one year old and Senator Sahabi Alh Ya’u is ending the year in the Senate without a single bill or motion and this is despite the series of socio-economic crisis faced by the people of the Senatorial Zone”.
“Kaura Namoda his country home, as well as Zurmi, Birnin Magaji and may be except Shinkafi that has entered into a temporary reconciliation have been battling with live threats by the constant armed bandit attacks and for once since his re-election in 2023, he has never stand on the floor of the National Assembly to move a motion asking for a Senate to make a resolution on how to secure his people “ the statement added.
“Just as a show of concern Kaura Namoda has for instance came under constant attacks by the bandits and to the extent that some concern citizens from Kaura Namoda, Sakajiki and rest have to took to the street to protest their neglect in the hand of the bandits but Sen. Sahabi Ya’u has never for once feel it was important to come and condole with the people of his constituency over the armed bandit tragedy that befalls them”.
Everybody is aware of the constant murderous attacks by armed bandits in Zurmi local government where to some extent reports indicated that even the Emir was attempted to be abducted and various operatives of Community Protection Guards (CPG) including police officers were killed but Sen. Sahabi Ya’u has never found it important to come back home and visit his people to commiserate with them over the unfortunate incident”
Everyone has seen the effort made by Sen. Ikira Bilbis, Sen. Yari and Hon. Kabiru Amadu for standing firmly to voice out the feelings of their people but in the case of Zamfara North reverse is the case.
Based on this development, we have held our first our first meeting in Shinkafi and we have grouped ourselves and we have begin the collection of signatures and in a week time we are going to forward our position to the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC for us to begin to begin the process of his recall because we are disappointed over his legislative representation” the statement added.
