The Society for Women Development and Empowerment in Nigeria (SWODEN) has trained 30 focal persons from Women Right Organizations (WROs) in Kebbi State on gender mainstreaming in nutrition and health through behavioral change interventions.

The two-day training, organized in collaboration with the state Ministry of Women Affairs, aimed to build the capacity of community-based women’s rights organizations to promote gender equality in nutrition and health.

According to Mrs. Esther Hindi, Programme Manager of SWODEN, the training sought to mobilize awareness and sensitization in communities to improve nutrition, particularly for children, and address the consequences of undernutrition, such as miscarriage and malnutrition.

Hindi emphasized the importance of nutrition for optimal fetal growth, better childbirth outcomes, and long-term health for both mothers and children. She called on stakeholders, including state government ministries, departments, and agencies, to support sustained mobilization and awareness efforts in communities.

Dr. Nafisa Abubakar-Zaki, CEO of Zaki’s Gem Support Foundation, representing the participants, stressed the need for collective action to address maternal health challenges in the state and country.

SWODEN, a civil society organization, focuses on providing innovative health, educational, economic development, and social protection services to women, girls, and young people.
