Dr Abdullahi Ahmed, Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, has urged newly employed staff of the institution to imbibe the culture of honestly and steer clear of acts that could tarnish their image.
Ahmed gave the advice on Wednesday in Nasarawa at an induction and orientation lecture organised for the new workers.
The theme of the lecture was: “Promoting Ethics in Work Place for Quality Service Delivery”.
The rector also enjoined the staff to abide by the rules and regulations governing the affairs of the institution and carry out their duties with diligence and commitment to uphold the reputation of the polytechnic.
“You have chosen the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa and the Polytechnic have chosen you. Since you joined us at this crucial period, challenge yourself to become the best possible employee you can be.
“Never stop striving for excellence. Continue to work diligently and help to produce a corrupt-free Nigerian State.
“You are the future of Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa. I am confident you will be assets to both the institution and society,” the rector said.
The Vice Chancellor, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Prof. Suleiman Mohammed, in a remark, urged the staff to remain focused and be very serious with their schedules.
“You are employed for a purpose. Strive to fulfill that purpose,” he said.
Mohammed, while speaking on the topic “Conflict Resolution and Disciplinary Action”, urged the staff to eschew moral vices and other negative tendencies that could hinder the institution from achieving set goals.
“The Polytechnic does not tolerate misconduct by staff. Erring workers will face severe sanctions,” he warned.
Malam Abubakar Yahaya, one of the new workers, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, assured management of total loyalty and obedience to rules and regulations. (NAN)
