The police in Lagos have arraigned Sadiku Rasaki, 47, before a Lagos State Magistrate’s Court in Ebute-Metta for allegedly posing as an academic consultant to the Tai Solarin University of Education to obtain N600,000 from his victim.
The police docked Rasaki before Magistrate Oluwatosin Erinle on a three-count charge of obtaining money under false pretence, stealing, and impersonation.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Cyriacus Osuji, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in September 2023 in Lagos.
Osuji claimed that the defendant allegedly obtained the sum of N600,000 from one James Oyeleke under the false pretences of helping his son, Nathaniel Oyeleke, to facilitate the release of his school certificate.
The prosecutor maintained that the offences are contrary to section 314 and punishable under sections 287 and 38 of the criminal laws of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The development made Magistrate Erinle grant him bail in the sum of N300,000, with two sureties who must be gainfully employed in like sum.
The magistrate also ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relation, show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos state government, produce six months’ bank statement, and show a means of identification.
The Magistrate also directed that the court’s registrar must verify the addresses of the sureties.
She then adjourned the case to July 30 for mention.
