Former Nigerian Tennis number one, Omotayo Osewa, utilised her experience to see off Loveth Ogah 4-2 5-3 in the women’s preliminary stages of the ongoing CBN Senior Open Tennis championship on Saturday.
Osewa knew it was not going to be a walk in the park but held on strong to defeat Ogah in the second round match played at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
She later admitted she was unfit and not prepared for the competition.
“I was not very prepared for the competition. COVID-19 contributed to it.
“I was also playing a former national number one and it was not easy. Even at her age, she is still so good,” Ogah said.
“My opponent was not a pushover. So, I knew I had to stay focused.
“There were times when I knew that my experience helped me to steal some points. Hopefully, I will be able to qualify for the main draw which begins on Monday,” she said.
The tournament which began on Friday with the qualifiers is expected to end on Nov. 14.
