NUJ President Asks Buachi Govt. To Consider Allowance For Journalist

The President of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Chris Izigozu, has called on the Bauchi state government to consider implementing a law on weigh in allowance for journalists working for the state radio and television stations.

Isiguzo made the call during a courtesy visit on the State governor, Alhaji Bala Mohammad on Thursday in Bauchi. The president said the implementation of the law would allow ‘colleagues’ to specially benefit from the package.

He said “we know that our colleagues are involved in very special duties and it is believed that those who do special jobs should be specially remunerated.

The president appealed to the state government to consider the implementation of the law on weigh-in allowance for journalists working with the state television, radio stations and Ministry of Information.

“We will appreciate that the government begins to implement it and our people begin to benefit from it accordingly,’’ he said.

Isiguzo also reminded the governor of his promise to digitise the state radio and television stations in the state, saying it would help them meet up with their contemporaries in the developed countries.

He said that he was on an advocate visit to the state government was implementing programmes and policies that have direct impact on the lives of the people in the state.

Responding, Mohammad assured that his administration would sustain the existing relationship with journalists and also ensure that their welfare was adequately taken care of.

He was represented by his deputy, Sen. Baba Tela.

Mohammad said that the process of digitilisation of the state owned media outfits had been captured in the 2020 budget.

He assured that government was looking into the weigh-in salaries for Journalists as requested by the NUJ president.
