The Community Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (COMPASS) has decried the violence and looting of public and private assets in Lagos State by hoodlums who hijacked the #EndSARS protest.
Its President, Tayo Aderinola, made the assertion in a statement on Monday in Lagos, while condemning the attacks on some media houses and journalists during the violence.
“We implore members of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry and Restitution for Victims of SARS-related Abuses in Lagos State to be thorough so that justice can be done.
“We hope that the state government shall ensure a thorough and speedy investigation of the dastardly acts and prosecute its perpetrators.
He expressed the association’s sympathy with the media houses that incurred varied degrees of loses in the protests.
“We sympathise with The Nation Newspapers, Television Continental (TVC), Lagos Television (LTV) and all journalists who were attacked while doing their jobs as the frontline workers.
“Government and the society should please do more to help protect media practitioners, who are the voices of the voiceless,” Aderinola said.
