The Second Cohort of Kashim Ibrahim Fellows (KIF), a one-year leadership programme of the Kaduna State Government, has empowered 331 graduates in the state with different skills.

The group has also concluded plans to construct a block of two classrooms at Local Government Education Authority Primary School, Danhonu 1, Kadaure, in Chikun Local Government Area of the state.

Gov. Nasir El-Rufa’i had in August 2018 inaugurated the KIF, a one-year programme for 16 fellows from all over Nigeria to develop and nurture their leadership abilities for public service.

The Media and Communication Officer of the fellows, Zainab Yusuf, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna on Wednesday that the gesture was part of the fellows’ week-long community service.

Yusuf explained that the goal was to give back to the society by investing in the younger generation through education as well as to equip thém with the needed skills to better their lives.

She said that the community service began on Monday with employability workshop that exposed graduates to what was required to gain employment in the labour market and how to be self-employed.

She noted that there were large number of graduates in the country with no idea of how to get employed or use their skills to be self-employed.

“So, we organised an employability workshop tagged “Kitchen”, to equip youths with the needed skill to gain employment in labour market and how to tap from available opportunities to be self-employed.

“They were exposed to seven skill areas; how to write an employable curriculum vitae; how to write cover letter; how to network; how to gain employment; as well as entrepreneurship, interview and generic skills.

“A total of 331 graduates participated in the workshop which held on Monday and Tuesday, while the grand finale will take place on Dec. 12 with a guess speaker session and career fair.

“The fair is designed to provide a platform for the participants to interact with Human Resource Managers from public and private sector, including Civil Service Commission,” she said.

Yusuf added that the community service would end on Dec. 13 with a Ground-Breaking Ceremony of the construction of a block of two classrooms at LEA Primary School Danhonu 1, Kadaure.

She said that the school, located around Millennium City, had 1,660 pupils but was faced with acute shortage of classrooms.

According to her, the effort was to help in decongesting the classes for improved teaching and learning.
