The Kebbi State House of Assembly has passed two significant bills: one amending the Local Government Law, 2008, and another establishing the Kebbi State Local Government Service Commission.

The bills were passed after considering reports from the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and the House Committee on General Administration and Security.

The amended Local Government Law, 2024, includes changes such as replacing the word “Twelve” with “Ten” and “Satisfy” with “Satisfied” in certain sections. Additionally, the bill inserts “Government” after “Local” in Section 122 (2) and expands the list of traditional title heads in Section 122 (2) (I).

The bill establishing the Kebbi State Local Government Service Commission repeals and re-enacts the Kebbi State Local Government Service Board Cap 87 of 1996. The commission will oversee local government service matters.

Both bills were unanimously adopted by the lawmakers after being put to a voice vote by the Speaker, Muhammad Usman.

This development aims to strengthen local governance and improve the administration of local government services in Kebbi State.
