Gov. Matawalle Wants FG To Extend Its Special Public Works Programme To One Year

Zamfara State Governor Hon. Dr. Bello Mohammed MON (Matawallen Maradun) has called on the federal government to extend the period of its designed Special Public Works Programme from the period of three months to one year for the purpose of equipping reasonable number of the nation’s unemployed youths for a complete year.

This was contained I a statement signed by Yusuf Idris Gusau, Director General,Media, Public Enlightenment and Communication, he further said that the Governor made the call when he received the State Chairman of the Selection Committee,  Engr. Ahmad Garban Yandi and other members of the committee who paid him a courtesy call at Government House Council Chamber, Gusau.

The Governor said the federal government Special Public Works programme initiated by the federal Ministry of Labour and Employment is an ideal built and designed for the purpose of reducing the unemployment rate at all levels which will impact positively in reducing the crime rates in the country.

Matawalle further commended President Muhammadu Buhari for creating 774,000 job’s through the extended Special Public Works in which a reasonable number of unskilled workers will be recruited and a lot of families will feel the essence of the programme.

He called on the federal government to consider the possibility of extending the  duration of the programme from the planned three months to the period of one year noting that at the end, a lot of the engaged workers will have a reasonable amount to establish other businesses or acquire some working materials that can sustain them over a time.

Governor Matawalle maintained that by engaging unemployed youth, the Security challenges facing the country will significantly reduce.

The Governor also congratulated members of the State Selection committee and charged them to ensure justice and fairness while conducting their committee responsibility according to the terms and reference given to them.

He added that they should consider every eligible Zamfara State indigene irrespective of his political affiliation for the purpose of patriotism and selflessness so that any person that will be selected will be based on merit.

Earlier in his address the Zamfara State Selection Committee Chairman, Engr Ahmed Garban Yandi said they were at the Government House to seek the Governor’s blessings for the smooth take off of the programme.

Garban Yandi informed the Governor that the programme was mainly designed with the sole objective of creating job opportunities to the citizens of the country and reducing unemployment.

He further announced that the programme targets to recruit one thousand unskilled workers in each of the 774 local government areas.

Engr. Yandi explained that the 1,000 persons that will be recruited in each local government area are to be engaged for the period of three months which is form October to December, 2020 to Carry out public Works that are peculiar to their respective areas.

He added that all the identified  beneficiaries will be paid a monthly allowance of 20,000 for the period of 3 month expressing the hope that the exercise exceeds the first period depending on how successful the programme will be.

The courtesy call was attended by the  Deputy Speaker, Honourable Musa Bawa Musa, Secretary to Zamfara State Government, Alhaji Bala Bello Maru, Chief of Staff Government House, Col. Bala Mande, Deputy Chief of Staff, Dr. Bashir Mohammed Maru, Commissioners, Special Advisers, Permanent Secretary office of the  Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Jaafar Maradun, Emir of Bungudu Alhaji Hassan Attahiru and the members of the State Selection Committee among others.
