The Gombe Government says it has earmarked N600 million for projects to improve rural water supply across the 11 local government areas in the state.

Alhaji Usman Jahun, the state Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gombe on Friday.

Jahun said the state government would invest the amount in constructing earth dams, sinking boreholes and providing overhead storage tanks, among other facilities, to provide potable water supply to the benefiting communities.

He also said the state government was working on a plan to connect communities not yet connected to the national grid.

He said: “Gov. Inuwa Yahaya has passion for rural areas because 80 per cent of Gombe population are domicile in rural communities.”

He said providing basic amenities in the rural communities would reduce the rate of migration from rural to urban centres.

The commissioner also disclosed the state government plans to construct 100 kilometers of road networks in each local government  area of the state under “Network Eleven Hundred” project.

He said the roads network would open up the rural communities, boost economic activities and facilitate easy access to locations across the state.
