Mr Dasuki Arabi, the Director-General, Bureau of Public Service Reform (BPSR), has reiterated Federal Government’s plan to reinvigorate the civil service, improve workers welfare and provide enabling environment to enhance productivity.

Arabi made the disclosure at the News Agency of Nigeria Forum, on Sunday in Abuja.

According to him, the plan is part of the reforms being carried out by the bureau to enhance timely delivery of the much needed services to Nigerians for economic and national development.

“The civil servant is part of the public service and just as you have heard several times, the head of service is heading a committee that is looking at harmonisation of salaries and welfare of staff.

“Part of these things are the recent increase in Duty Tour Allowance to civil servants.

“In addition to that, we want our recognition system revived, to identify serving and fallen officers delivering exceptional services and reward them.

“The reward is not just monetary, there are other quite interesting rewards.

“You know there is competition, creativity and innovation in the service where civil servants are given the right to do odd things.

“By coming up and creating programmes, software innovation, etc rewards are awarded for that,” the director-general said.

Arabi said the bureau had been encouraging government to look at the welfare of public servants.

“I am a professional human resource officer, the role and importance of personnel is very important in what you are doing.

“We want to also be able to provide the best service that we want the civil servants to provide,” he added.

According to him, the renovations carried out at the Federal Secretariats and other MDAs are part of the reforms to create an enabling working environment for civil servants.

Arabi said this was a key pillar of the Public Service National Strategy, which focused on creating conducive environment for the conduct of government business.
