Electricity consumers in some parts of Ilorin, the Kwara capital, have, in the last three day, been experiencing total blackout, following the damage of about 12 electric poles and cables by rainstorm.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the affected areas include Ibrahim Taiwo road, Okoerin, Sawmill, Oloje, Adeta, AbdulAzeez Attah road, Pakata, Alore, Omoda and Anifowoshe, among others.
The electricity consumers in the affected areas have expressed displeasure over the blackout, amidst the current lockdown imposed by government to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
A landlord at Okoerin area, Mr AbdulRauf Arowolo, while speaking with NAN, said that the three-day blackout had created untold hardship to the residents, especially with the current lockdown.
He appealed to IBEDC to be alive to its responsibilities by repairing the damaged poles and cables and ensuring steady power supply to give them minimum comfort.
Mr Ibrahim Olatunji, an operator of a business centre along Okoerin road, Ilorin, said the power outage had paralysed business activities, especially during the few hours when the lockdown was relaxed.
He called on the lbadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to expedite action on the repair work to make life more comfortable to the residents.
In a swift reaction, the Kwara Regional Head of IBEDC, Engr. Ajisafe Bello, attributed the blackout to the damage done to 12 electric poles and cables by rainstorm in some parts of Ilorin.
Bello pleaded with the affected residents to exercise patience, as IBEDC engineers were currently working to restore power supply.
