Mr Dogo Shammah, the state Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, stated this on Thursday in Lafia while hosting heads of media outfits in the state.

He commended both government and private media organisations in the state for their efforts in creating awareness on the dangers of COVID-19 and the preventive measures against it.

Shammah, however, appealed to the heads of media organisations to do more in the area of awareness creation, both in English and local languages, to contain the spread of the virus as well as project government activities.

The commissioner explained that the meeting was also meant to cement the existing relationship between media organisations and the state government.

While appealing to journalists to be objective in their reportage, especially in the midst of COVID-19 currently ravaging the world, he said that plans were on the way by the ministry to embark on grassroots awareness campaign.

Shammah, however, called on the people of the state to always adhere to all the necessary preventing measures, such as regular hand washing and social distancing, among others to guard against the virus.

The commissioner also urged religious leaders to pray for God’s intervention over the COVID-19 pandemic.

In their separate remarks, the General Manager, Nasarawa Broadcasting Service, Mr Yusuf Musa, General Manager, Precious FM, Alhaji Musa Abdullahi and the Chief Executive Officer, Breeze FM, Mr Nawoni Aboki commended government for taking proactive steps towards containing COVID-19 in the state.
