In response to the nationwide strike action directed by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), the Bayero University Kano (BUK) has suspended the ongoing first semester undergraduate examinations for the 2022/2023 academic session and all other academic activities.

The announcement came through a special bulletin released on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, signed by the Acting Registrar of the University, Amina Umar Abdullahi.

The university management cited the joint decision of the University Unions to participate in the nationwide strike as the reason for its decision.

“Following the nationwide strike by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the subsequent decision by the University Unions to join the strike, the Management of Bayero University, Kano, has decided to suspend the ongoing 2022/2023 First Semester Undergraduate examinations and all other academic activities until further notice,” the bulletin stated.

The university urged students to remain calm and await further directives from the management.

The ongoing examinations were halfway through, and the bulletin assured that once the strike ends, the examinations will resume.

LEADERSHIP reports that the nationwide strike was triggered by an assault on the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, in Owerri, Imo State on November 6 during a protest against the Imo State Government’s alleged maltreatment of workers.
