Bago Urges Nigerians To Embrace Unity

Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has affirmed that Nigeria will overcome misgivings that characterized the journey to nationhood and will come out more resilient.
The governor who was represented by the deputy governor Comrade Yakubu Garba during the independence parade that took place at Bako Kontagora stadium Minna said the diversity notwithstanding the path unity must be taken.
“We have been through trying times and in each occasion, we have always come out more resilient, remaining a united and prosperous nation,” he reiterated.
He added that “Our achievements as a sovereign nation truly calls for celebrations but we should also use the moment to run an honest check on our contributions both individually and collectively while appreciating God for His infinite mercy over the nation.”
The governor said the anniversary also called for new resolutions and new visions from every citizen of the country to rededicate themselves toward pursuing its unity, development and aspirations to reach greatness of nationhood.
Bago commended the patriotism, resilience and commitment of Nigeria’s founding fathers who fought and laid down their lives for the liberation of the country.
He described them as men and women of honour and integrity who negotiated for the freedom and independence of the nation.
The governor however posited that”we need to take it beyond our heroes’ past to reflect on the gains and lessons learned over the years in order to take charge and face the challenges of our time”.
While calling on Nigerians to be selfless, he stressed the need to understand and respect the diversities, either as Muslims or Christians, and from North or South to coexist peacefully.
