The Director General of the Nigerian Institute of Leather Science and Technology (NILEST) Prof. M.K. Yakubu FMSN,FPIN),FTRAN,FANSEN, IION. led the National Leather Policy Implementation Committee on a working visit to the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). The delegation was cordially received by Mr. Rueben O. Bamidele, the Acting Country Director of UNIDO.

Mr. Bamidele welcomed the delegation to UNIDO and provided a comprehensive overview of the organization’s ongoing activities.

In his remarks, the DG outlined the progress made in the implementation of the National Leather Policy and highlighted the successes achieved to date. He extended an invitation to UNIDO to participate in the forthcoming Business-to-Business Summit, scheduled to be held in Kwara State. The DG also sought UNIDO’s support in fully harnessing the potential of Nigeria’s leather and leather products value chain.

In his response, Mr. Bamidele reaffirmed UNIDO’s commitment to supporting the development of the leather industry in Nigeria. He noted that UNIDO has previously established common facility centers in Aba and Kano to bolster the local leather industry. Mr. Bamidele further emphasized UNIDO’s readiness to collaborate closely with the National Leather Policy Implementation Committee to ensure the successful implementation of the leather and leather products policy.
