The Commandant, Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peace Keeping Centre (MLAILPKC), Maj.-Gen. Auwal Fagge, has charged army personnel to remain focused and be highly resilient against all forms of distractions.

Fagge gave the charge on the occasion of the year 2021 West African Social Activities (WASA), held at Nigerian Army School of Artillery (NASA), Kachia, on Saturday, in Kaduna.

He also charged them to remain proactive in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities and to redouble their efforts in achieving greatness in 2022.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that WASA is an age-long annual military tradition of celebrating successful administrative and training year.

The Commandant said the occasion is an annual event reflecting the rich tradition and cultural heritage of the officers, soldiers and families in the Nigerian Army (NA).

He added that the event is also an avenue for the barrack community to refresh themselves in a relaxed atmosphere, while preparing for the next year.

“To the officers and soldiers of the school, I applaud you all for your sacrifices and dedication to training of personnel of NASA.

“For the students, I implore you all to remain disciplined, dedicated and professional in carrying out your constitutional roles by abiding by all existing regulations and instructions passed to you from time to time.

He stated that the Nigerian Army is making all efforts to consolidate on the achievement it has so far recorded in all its activities geared towards ensuring peace and stability across the country.

“The brilliant display by the various cultural troupes that performed is encouraging as it affirms the long-standing tradition that links the Nigerian Army with our cultural backgrounds.”

“This event is a testimony of the barracks being a melting pot for different cultures and social backgrounds,” he said.

Fagge said the event is another forum to remember and pay tributes to fallen heroes, who paid the supreme price and sacrifice for the peace of Nigeria.

The Commandant appreciated the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Farouk Yahaya, and we are committed to achieving his lofty vision for the Nigeria Army.

Earlier, the Commandant, NASA, Maj.-Gen. Boniface Sinjen, said WASA will afford soldiers and officers to come together to appreciate the end of year 2021.

Sinjen encouraged the soldiers and officers to put in their best in 2022, and be dedicated in carrying out their duties, saying discipline, dedication and hard work are the bedrock of the military.

NAN reports that the event was celebrated with displays of rich cultural dances and songs, competitions, among others. Awards were later given to personnel who distinguished themselves in their various lines of duty.
