Gov. Mai Mala-Buni of Yobe on Thursday approved the recruitment of 54 nurses to boost the staff requirement of health facilities in the state.

Mala-Buni, in a statement by his Director General, Press and Media Affairs, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed in Damaturu, said that only qualified nurses would benefit from the gesture.

He said that the nurses to be employed were 2020 graduates of the Shehu Sule College of Nursing and Midwifery.

The governor said the employment was necessary following the establishment, expansion and upgrading of over 70 health institutions across the state.

He urged the successful nurses to be dedicated to the duties assigned to them when absorbed into the state civil service.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mala-Buni’s administration recently upgraded four General hospitals to specialists’ hospitals in Gashua, Potiskum, Geidam and Buni Yadi.

He also approved the upgrading of six comprehensive health centers to General hospitals in Machina, Yusufari, Jajimaji, Bara, Babbangida and Nguru towns.
