His Excellency Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawallen Maradun interacts with 26 rescued girls after medical professionals have ascertained their physical and mental fitness following days of trauma they suffered in captivity.

The young girls kidnapped from Katsina State were rescued on 6/11/2020 as a result of the intervention of Zamfara State Governor.

The Governor is renowned for his successes in dual approaches for dealing with armed banditry bedeviling the Northwestern region of Nigeria.

Inspite of the myriads of socioeconomic challenges he inherited in Zamfara State, Dr. Bello Matawalle is managing the meager resources at his disposal to tackle regional insecurity without overwhelming the Federal Government with requests for monetary intervention.

Dr. Bello Matawalle made the successful rescue of the 26 young girls from kidnappers after applying his usual non-kinetic strategy which led to the unconditional freedom of the 26 victims after spending 1 week in captivity.

The young girls are aged between 8 to 18 years and one older woman, all kidnapped from their villages in Katsina State.

In his remarks, Dr. Bello Matawalle encouraged all relevant stakeholders to adopt carrot-and-stick approach in dealing with the overwhelming situation of banditry in the Northwest.

He further advised, “wherever dialogue fails to provide the desired result, we should not hesitate to mobilize all kinetic resources at our disposal to forcefully end this menace, but as long as carrot-and-stick approach is working, it should remain our priority”.

The rescued girls are already on their way to reunite with parents after proper handing over to Katsina State Government.
