Mr Peter Averik, Chairman of Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State has called for more synergy between security agencies and communities to tackle the menace of insecurity in the area.

Averik made the call on Thursday during a visit to Zankan Sarki community in Godogodo chiefdom to sympathise with the people over the recent killing of one Abel Danjuma by suspected kidnappers.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that suspected kidnappers allegedly killed the deceased on April 14 after which the security agents rescued two ladies from their captors at Jagindi forest.

He described the incident as unfortunate, noting that an effective collaboration and synergy between the communities and the security outfits were necessary if the fight against crime was to be won.

The Chairman advised communities to set up vigilance groups, who would work with the security agents by giving useful information that would lead to the arrest of arm bandits, kidnappers and other criminal elements in the society.

He commended the gallantry of the Zankan Sarki youths for risking their lives by moving into the forest to rescue two ladies, who were kidnapped at a forest around Jagindi area while on transit from Abuja to Gombe state.

He urged the family of the deceased to take solace in the fact that he died a hero having provided information and joined the youths who stormed the forest to rescue the two female kidnapped victims from their captors before his eventual death.

Responding on behalf of the family, Mr Bitrus Jatau, commended the chairman for the timely visit.

Narrating the incident, Jatau said they got a hint from the deceased that two ladies were kidnapped along Jagindi while coming from Abuja and taken into the forest by their captors.

“We mobilised ourselves quickly and went into the forest.

“The information provided through phone by the deceased who was then in the forest hunting helped in locating and rescuing the ladies from the kidnappers, who were demanding N10million as ransom,” he said.

He explained that Abel alongside some two brothers, Waje Christopher and Denis Christopher, went back to the forest the same day for hunting after rescuing the ladies and were attacked by men suspected to be the same kidnappers.

According to him, while Abel was shot and macheted to death instantly, Waje Christopher and his brother, however, escaped with different degrees of machete wounds.

NAN reports that the chairman accompanied by his vice, Micah Ngboni and secretary, Amos Samaila ,visited the hospital where the two brothers who sustained machete wounds during the incident were receiving treatment.
