Prophet Peter Williams of Christ Apostolic Church, Faith Chapel, Ilorin, on Saturday admonished Christians to celebrate the significance of Good Friday by praying for Nigeria.

Williams told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin the death of Jesus was more important to Christians than His birth.

According to him, Christ’s primary mission was to come and die for  sinners in order to save mankind from eternal death.

He said that Christ’s death was the basis and foundation of Christians salvation and new life.

“The primary reason Jesus Christ came was for Him to die for the sinful world. He was condemned so that we would not be condemned. He didn’t come to live with us as an ordinary man.

“The Bible makes us to understand that the wages of sin is death, before Jesus, there was jungle system of judgment for anyone who committed sin, but Christ came and we cannot talk about grace without his death.

“We must honour Good Friday because this is the day salvation was given to us,” he said.

On celebrating the season under lockdown, the cleric called on Christians to pray against the COVID-19 pandemic oppressing the world.

“Having to celebrate the death of our Lord and saviour, Jesus Christ, under lockdown is a sign that we should all gather and cry to God.

“That salvation is not complete until we are free from all these diseases, we should go back to Him and remind Him of all His promises.

“It is sad that we cannot celebrate this significant day as usual because we are under the oppression of the Coronavirus; it is informing us as Christians to pray hard, be sober and regard God in our hearts,” the cleric said.

Williams prayed for hope of a better tomorrow and wished Christians a happy Easter celebration.
