In the recent history of the world, the first quarter of 2020 became the most trying time as a results of coronavirus outbreaks which started from Wuhan State of China. Within a shorttime this novel virus becomes deadly and spreads to the entire world with a speed of light.
Initially people looks at this virus from restricted scope to control and dominate the world’s economy by the United State of America against it archrival China.
Gradually coronavirus almost brings the entire world to standstill crippling the world’s economy with travels restrictions and lockdown to curtail it’s spreads, but still the virus managed to reached all the continents without any barrier or restrictions.
It is a known fact that, the developed countries affected by coronavirus have excellent and effective healthcare facilities managed by adequately trained medical practitioners, but the virus keep multiplying with high rates of mortalities. The challenges advanced countries are facing to control the spreads of the virus are warning signals to the third-world countries particularly Nigeria and other African countries where the leaders bastardized the state’s institutions especially health sector which they never do not attend or patronize. For the time being, medical tourism to USA, UK, China, India, Italy and France among other countries with well equipped healthcare centres are no longer accessible to them. This is due to the fact that, they are facing shortages of Personal Protection Equipments, Ventilators and other coronavirus fighting equipment.
Currently the devastating news of coronavirus pandemic dominates all media outlets reporting daily infections, deaths, recoveries and the challenges medical workers are facing in the treatments and control of the virus. Despite their advancement in the medical fields what we are seeing on daily basis is helplessness to curtail the spreads of coronavirus that moves like bushfire or what maybe call health tsunami.
The challenges and difficulties developed countries are should despite the stringent measures put in place to fight this deadly virus should serve as a wake-up call to our leaders to devise means to reduce our over-dependant and over-reliance on developed world for healthcare delivery by developing our own system that can work independent or with less-dependence on foreign influence.
This can only be achieved with commitment to invest in education particularly investment in science and technology. Unfortunately our leaders who enjoyed free quality education at all levels of education now doing everything possible to deny same to others for their selfish interests.
The current world lockdown has other devastating effect on other sectors specifically importation of premium motor spirit (PMS) and other essential goods needed for our continuing survival.
The truths must be told to save our countries and future generations against all uncertainties. If the lockdown continue for months Nigeria and other African countries will run short of basic supplies of good imported from the developed countries.
We have no any other alternative than to take short, medium and long-terms plans to save and reposition our health, economy, education and all over sectors to liberate us from further enslavement and imperialist control.
Nigerian and other African leaders, should as a matter of urgency put their nations first than protectionist approach to advance their personal interests. The time to act is now or never, the earlier you go back to drawing boards the better.
