Authorities of the Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC), Ogun branch on Tuesday promised it would continue to sustain its Science Fair and Art Exhibition annual programme, in spite of the challenges faced in funding it.

Mr Ercan Yilmaz, Principal of the school, made the promise in an interview with the Newsmen on the sidelines of the school’s 2020 Annual Science Fair and Art Exhibition in Lagos.

Yilmaz said that the programme had become an integral part of the school’s academic calendar and culture and so could not be waived, suspended or postponed in spite of the financial requirements.

“The yearly science fair has become a culture in our school and is therefore an integral part of our academic programme.

“This is why it could not be waived, suspended or postponed in spite of the challenges we recently went through.

“To attempt to suspend or waive it means that the academic advantages derivable from it would be dispensed with.

“We would not want this. Hence, our time and resources are committed to hold it this time,” he said.

The Principal said the fair was an occasion for the students to showcase their little but quite significant scientific discoveries.

He said other students were also given the opportunity to support and equally showcase one or two things from which everyone gained some insight.

According to him, the event is a platform for the subject teachers to allow their students present to the public what they had learnt.

“In the same vein, primary school pupils would learn one or two things from their senior colleagues,” he said.

Yilmaz noted that the theme of this year’s fair was premised on the observation by the teachers and the school’s administration on the several challenges; consequent upon the way we exploit the resources in the environment.

The principal said: “these challenges could be solved using some common but simple scientific knowledge process and steps.

“This is what our students would try to show and a number of the presentation will provide us with this insight, I believe.’’

Samples of exhibition displayed by the students include: the Ricksaw Mobility Vehicle by the Basic Science and Technology Department, Radar Observatory Device by the Physics Department and Paper Automated Teller Machine (ATM), among others.

Parents and students, however, appreciated the college’s management for sustaining the programme and improving on it yearly.
