Man Arraigned For Allegedly Stealing Litres Of Red Oil

A 65-year-old man, Ojo Ajayi, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court over alleged stealing of six 25 litre kegs of red oil.

Ajayi, whose address was not given is facing a two-count charge of stealing and conversion of six 25 litre kegs of red oil.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that the arraigned committed the offence on April 28 at about 7.20 a.m. near Jossy House, Odo-Oro Ekiti, Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendant stole six 25 litre kegs of red oil valued at N48,000 belonging to one Mrs Bose Akomolafe.

Oriyomi also alleged that the defendant fraudulently converted the red oil into his own.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

He asked the court for adjournment to enable him study the file and assemble his witnesses.

The defendant however pleaded not guilty.

Counsel to the defendant, Mr Olorunfemi Alonge, urged the court to grant his client bail and promised that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olanike Adegoke, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

Adegoke adjourned the case until June 24 for mention.
