Lawmaker Launches Tree Planting Initiative To Combat Desertification In Kebbi

Alhaji Faruku Maisudan, a member of the Kebbi House of Assembly representing Suru Local Government constituency, has inaugurated a tree planting campaign to combat desertification in his constituency.

Speaking at the launch in Suru Local Government Area on Sunday, Maisudan said the initiative aims to combat desertification, preserve the environment, and mitigate climate change. He pledged to plant over 1,000 seedlings across the local government area and collaborate with NGOs, government agencies, and individuals to raise awareness about environmental challenges and solutions.

The District Head of Dakingari, Alhaji Jafaru Haliru-Mutube, commended the initiative, saying it would improve afforestation and conservation. He promised to work with Maisudan to mobilize community leaders to educate their subjects on the importance of tree planting.

The Principal of Government Girls Secondary School Dakingari, Hajiya Hauwau Abubakar, expressed appreciation for the initiative, saying it would conserve the environment and enhance the school’s beautification.

Alhaji Ibrahim Jombali, Chairman of Suru Local Government Progressive Union (SULPU), described the tree planting initiative as vital to environmental sustainability and combating climate challenges. He commended Maisudan for providing the seedlings and pledged to encourage youth and students to participate in the campaign.
