Lagos State Government, LASG has described as barbaric the attack by a trader on a Neighbourhood Watch official while on duty at Eletu Ogabi Street, Victoria Island.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt that the trader allegedly bite off a chunk of Mr Alape Solomon’s lip in a bid to prevent his arrest by the official.
Bello said that it was disheartening that officers employed to safeguard members of the public were being attacked by the same people whose interest they were out to protect.
He expressed the hope that the offender would face the full weight of the law to serve as a deterrent to other people nursing such acts in future.
The LASG commissioner said that the trader, who was apprehended for street trading along Eletu Ogabi Street on Victoria Island, resisted arrest by attacking the official.
“The assaulted officer, who bled profusely from the upper and lower lips, was rushed to the Lagos General Hospital, where the wound was sutured before he was discharged,” he said.
