The Kebbi State Executive Council has established a 16- member committee to take swift and decisive action to minimize the impact of an impending flood expected to affect several local government areas in the state.
The committee, chaired by Deputy Governor Sen. Umar Abubakar Tafida, was constituted during the monthly Council meeting presided over by Governor Nasir Idris in Birnin Kebbi.
Commissioner for Information and Culture Alhaji Yakubu Ahmadu briefed journalists after the meeting, stating that the governor ordered immediate proactive measures to prevent unfortunate consequences.
Ahmadu explained that the committee will identify sources of the impending flood, affected communities, and liaise with religious and community leaders to enable the government to lessen difficulties and potentially evacuate endangered communities to higher ground.
The committee comprises commissioners from various ministries, including Information and Culture, Humanitarian Affairs and Empowerment, Water Resources, and others, as well as the Chairman of the Kebbi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA). While SEMA Executive Secretary, Abubakar Abdullahi would serve as committee Secretary.
The government aims to ensure safety in all communities and is taking necessary measures to mitigate the effects of the impending flood.
