The Kebbi State House of Assembly has passed the Transport Authority Bill, 2024, into law, aimed at improving the state’s transportation system. The bill was presented by Hon. Atiku Bello Kurya, Chairman of the Committee on Transport and Renewable Energy, and adopted by the full committee before its passage.
According to Hon. Kurya, the Transport Authority was established by Governor Nasir Idris to alleviate transportation difficulties and reduce expenses for workers. The authority will oversee designated routes within the city, inter-city, and neighboring countries, including the Republic of Niger and Benin.
The Transport Authority will provide relief to workers commuting between Birnin Kebbi and surrounding towns, with routes extending to major towns in the state and nearby cities like Maiduguri, Kano, and Lagos. The authority will also offer shuttle services to neighboring countries, including Niamey, Maradi, and Gaya in Niger Republic, and Maleville in the Republic of Benin.
In a separate development, the Supplementary Appropriation Bill, 2024, scaled second reading at the plenary session presided over by Speaker Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru.
