The Kebbi State Government has received three billion naira from the Federal Government on flood mitigation which ravaged several communities in the state.
The Minister for Budget and Economic Planning, Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, announced this in Birnin Kebbi in an interview with newsmen on what action the Federal Authorities have taken to bring succour to victims.
Sen. Bagudu who was in the state to condole with the former EFCC Chairman, ABDURRASHEED Bawa on the death of his mother, informed Journalists that Governor Nasir Idris confirmed to him about the receipt of the money by Kebbi State Government.
“The Federal Government allocated N3 billion to each state of the Federation to mitigate the effect of flooding, Kebbi Governor has intimated me that the state has taken possession of its share of the fund”,
“I commiserate with the people of Kebbi on the devastating natural phenomenon, climate change is real, Europe is also suffering from flooding”,
” Here in Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken proactive measures and strategies against flood”,
“In addition to the money given to states, the President has made other interventions”,
“He has ensured timely release of the Federation Account Allocation to states, the President has further approved N350 billion from the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Fund for the repairs of dams and irrigation facilities”,
“Furthermore, the Federal Executive Council presided by Tinubu approved N900 billion for the start of work on the 285 kilometres Kebbi component of the Sokoto – Badagry Super Highway”,
“Approval has also been made for the construction of Zariya-Kalala to Besse to Koko road while contract for the rehabilitation of the Malando to Ngaski road has already been awarded, including Birnin-Yauri”, the Minister said.
Sen. Atiku commended Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, for his positive impact on uplifting the living standard of the people in steering the affairs of the state.
“I am also praising the Governor for taking necessary action to bring relief to all communities affected by flooding and encouraging unrelenting cultivation of crops among farmers for self sufficiency in food production”, the Minister remarked.
