A Northern agricultural entrepreneur and information technology for development expert has created a platform to assist farmers throughout Nigeria, particularly in the Northern region, in selling farm produce at local and foreign marketplaces.

The Nigerian agricultural market is characterised by many limitations that prevent farmers from exporting perishable and imperishable goods which trample the development of agro business in the country.

The company’s founder, Hamisu Adamu Haruna, stated that he was inspired to create the platform, which was registered with the name After Farming International Digital Market, by his desire to develop ways for local farmers to directly sell or display their produce to potential consumers.

According to Haruna, the launch of After Farming International Digital Market will also aid in the elimination of chains of middlemen that are impeding the growth of agro-businesses in Nigeria by establishing direct contact between producers and consumers.

He added that the platform was primarily designed to “help agribusiness people improve export, import, and marketing through the use of information technology application for the benefit of African communities to arrange in accordance with the sustainable development goals (SDGs).”

Haruna went on to say that by using the platform to engage in the new method of worldwide digital agro-business, After Farming plans to provide employment opportunities to thousands of Nigerian youths.

“Youth represent a society’s and economy’s future,” he said. “Sustainable growth, prosperity, and social stability require decent and productive economic possibilities for youth,” he stated.

According to him, the platform with domain name afterfarming.com, which is planned to open on January 1, 2022, will give a road to decent work, bridge the gap between SMEs and inclusive growth, and remove barriers that prevent young entrepreneurs from engaging in international value chains and markets.
